Are we prepared for the next generation of PR Practitioners?

I was reading an article on this topic and the writer’s view point was one that has not really crossed my mind; maybe slightly, but definitely not as in depth. Are we ready for the new generation of public relations? How do we know? What are we doing different today than those 20 years ago?

Technology is rapidly changing, creating more and more ways to receive news. New jobs keep popping in to the market, and other jobs disappear because technology has taken over. Years from now, who knows – maybe 5 years, maybe 30 years – there may be no news papers.

Like the article says, we may not even watch TV for news. We will receive all breaking stories and celebrity gossip through an instant hologram. Who knows if this will really happen, but it does wake us wake up and smell the coffee. There is nothing we can do differently right now but be taught in the present.

What a strange world it would be, having micro chips embedded in our arms and watching live news right before our very eyes. On the bright side, we would never be left in the dark about what is going on around us.

I highly recommend taking the time to read the article. While it may not be completely relevant to our work today, it is something to think about and see a point a view we may not have ever even considered.
